History of School

Kilcroan N.S. was opened in 1874.

There was a separate school for boys and girls, each a room.

It was a distinctive mortared stone building with doorway and window trim of red brick and was entered by porches at the gables.

In 1944 the girl’s school was accidently burned down.

In 1948 a new three-roomed mixed school was open in Kilcroan.

In 2009 it was extended to include another classroom, G.P. room, office, staffroom – as it is today.

 

Opening & Closing Times:

  • Doors open: 9.20am for 9.30am start.

  • School ends: 2.10pm for Junior and Senior Infants.

  • School ends: 3.20pm - 1st – 6th Classes.

  • Break Times: 1st Break 11.00am – 11.20am & 2nd Break 1.00pm – 1.20pm

 

Books:

Until September 2023 - This has been replaced with the Free Books Grant.

The school run’s a book rental scheme.

Pupils rent text books for approx. one third of the cost.

Pupils buy their own work books and copies.

Senior pupils benefit more as they have more textbooks and less workbooks.

 

Uniform:

All pupils wear a school uniform

Grey pinafore / skirt / trousers with a blue shirt / polo shirt with a grey jumper /cardigan. Red tie optional. We have a navy-blue fleece for winter time which can be worn over the grey uniform.
